Help - not for Buster, but for me

I ran into a lot of problems with the assignment. Alas, many hours and only 6 photographs to show for it. I finally decided that I needed to learn from my mistakes rather than hitting my head up against the wall of perfection.

HELP:

1) Disclosure: I am not good at math. F-stops are easy but changing shutter speeds up or down by a third, a half, et cetera can get very confusing -- particularly when you are dealing with numbers like 1/3.1.
---- Any ideas about how to simply do this that is more conceptual/visual?

2) My camera has the record of settings for these photographs both when I take the photograph and in the preview mode. However, but this information did not transfer when I upload the photographs to IPhoto. I wrote down the shutter speeds and F-stops for all of the photographs, but now that I look at them on screen I am not sure which settings go with which photographs.
----Does anyone know how to set up IPhoto so this information uploads with the photographs? Other solutions?

3) I think there might be something wrong with my camera. Sometimes the meter reading remains the same no matter how much I change the speed and F-stops. Possibly I have done something with the camera, but I have gone through the menu and cannot find an area that deals with this kind of problem. I also sometimes cannot change an F-stop even after I try different speeds.
----I am going to try to go to the camera shop before class to see if they can solve the problem.
